Comparing Installation of Class III Trailer Hitches for 2017 Ford Edge SEL
Question:
I have a 2017 Ford Edge SEL. Of these three hitches you sell - Curt #C13234, Draw-Tite #75214 and Draw-Tite 75234 - do you have a personal favorite to recommend in terms of looks, ease of use, ground clearance, etc? Also, is it possible for the heat shield to remain in place? Should I be concerned if it has to be removed?

Expert Reply:
The three 2-inch Class III trailer hitches available for your 2017 Ford Edge SEL, shown on the linked page, do not differ much in their installation processes, but one among them, Draw-Tite # 75234, will offer a more discrete appearance since it has a concealed cross tube while the others have a cross tube that will remain visible after installation. This particular hitch also offer slightly higher weight capacities than the others.
None of the hitches requires you to do any drilling but all will require you to temporarily lower the exhaust from its rubber hangers (to give you better clearance for positioning the hitch) and to temporarily remove several underbody trim panels. These steps, as well as heat shield removal, are not uncommon for many hitch installations. Please refer to the linked installation video to see the whole process.
