What Do I Need to Install the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller on My 2004 Dodge Dakota Sport 4WD?
Question:
Hi, Im looking to install a brake controller and 7 pin trailer connector to a 2004 Dodge Dakota Sport 4WD 4.7L V8. It does not have the factory tow package so I dont have that wiring in place already. Im looking at the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Proportional Brake Controller. Can someone help tell me what I need to buy to install this system? Thanks!

Great choice! The Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195, is the most popular brake controller for your 2004 Dodge Dakota Sport 4WD. It comes will all the bells and whistles like the LCD digital display, automatic leveling and 360 vertical mounting range.
Since you don't have a factory connector on your truck, you will need to install a 4-Way trailer connector like part # 118323. This is a custom harness designed to plug in behind your Dakota's tail lights.
To power your electric brakes, you will need to adapt the 4 way plug into a 7-way connector. I recommend our brake controller installation kit # ETBC7 to adapt the 4-Way and to complete the brake controller installation. I've provided a link to the P3 & ETBC7 being installed on a 2009 Dodge Dakota. The install on your 2004 will be very similar. I've also provided a link to our Brake Controller Installation FAQ.
