Determining the Best Weight Distribution System for Lightweight Camper
Question:
Hi, I tow a small PUP Starcraft Starflyer 8 2014 which has a GVWC of 1800 lbs and a TW of 200 lbs. I was wrongly installed an overkill CURT 10000/1000 WD which is so heavy 85-100lbs that its a hindrance to haul around its own weight add too much on the TW. So Im currently looking for a replacement system and Reese seems to offer the best options. However, Im wondering why only one system SteadyFlex 66557 from Reese seems to be available.

In order to choose the best weight distribution hitch, you will first need to know your total tongue weight. That weight is going to be the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go Starcraft plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle. To determine total tongue weight, you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. The ideal system would be one in which your total tongue weight would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
Reese makes quality products that will likely fit your tongue weight such as the Steadi-Flex # RP66558 you mentioned, though they aren't the only manufacturers with lightweight systems. For example, the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0450 has a tongue weight capacity between 100 and 450 lbs.
I've added a link to a review video of this this system for you to take a look at as well as a link to our available weight distribution systems that can handle lighter capacities.
