Compatibility of the Thule Force Large Rooftop Cargo Carrier on a 2012 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

I have a 2012 Toyota Four Runner 4 door with factor roof rack and factory crossbars. Will a Thule Force L628, Force XL, or Force M box fit?

Both the Thule Force XT Rooftop Cargo Box, # TH6357B, and the Force XT Sport Cargo Box, # TH6356B, can fit the roof rack of a 2012 Toyota 4Runner. There are just a few measurements you will need to be certain these cargo boxes will fit.

First, the crossbar spread of your 4Runner will need to be measured. The measurement needed will be from the center of one cross bar to the center of the other crossbar. For the Thule Force XT box to fit your crossbars spread must be at least 23-5/8 inches and no more than 33 inches center to center. On the Thule Force XT Sport box the spread has to be at least 23-5/8 inches and no more than 35-3/8 inches center to center.

These two cargo boxes will mount to round, square, elliptical, aero, and most factory crossbars. The maximum crossbar dimension for these cargo boxes is 3-1/2 inches wide and 1-11/16 inches tall.

Finally, you will want to measure for clearance on the rear hatch. For measurement, measure from the center of the front crossbar to the line on the roof where the hatch and the roof meet. For the Force XT this distance must be at least 47-1/2 inches to allow the rear hatch to fully open. On the Force XT Sport this distance must be at least 48-1/4 inches.
