How To Choose Between A Roof Rack And Ladder Rack On A 2016 Ram ProMaster City

Question:

Just wondering if baskets can be attached to the tracrac vanrac es van ladder rack - or would I have to go with the rola sport ace rack ? I have a 2016 ram promaster city. I need to find something that will carry ladders and lumber and such but also allow me to carry canoes, kayaks, bikes and camp gear. Hence why I was looking at the rola racks with one of the removable basket racks or other attachments. However I am concerned about the weight limits and see that the tracrac has a 500lb limit where as the rola only 130 or something Do they make similar baskets and attachments for the tracrac? or should I go with rola or similar and will the weight limit be a problem??

I do have an option that will allow you to carry both elongated items and rooftop mounted accessories on your 2016 Ram ProMaster City, however, the TracRac TracVan ES Van Ladder Rack part # TH29616XT has crossbars thats are much too big for most roof rack accessories.

Therefore, I recommend using the Yakima CoreBar Crossbar System part # Y00421, part # Y00148, and part # Y00233 as this roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 lbs. In addition to weight capacity, the aero crossbars will be compatible with a much wider variety of rooftop accessories while also providing you with noise reduction and less wind resistance. You will want to check in your owner's manual for your vehicle's roof capacity first.

For a cargo basket compatible with your vehicle, I recommend using the SportRack Vista Roof Mounted Cargo Basket part # SR9035-9036 which has dimensions of 66" long x 39-1/8" wide and a 100 lb. weight capacity.
