Question:

Hi, Spot a 2017 Honda Pilot and a Fleetwood pop-up camper with electric brakes. What kind of brake controller and trailer wiring harness do I need to install to be able to properly tow the pop-up camper with electric brakes.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply the brakes on your trailer at the same time and with the same amount of pressure that you hit the brake pedal in your Pilot. It also has a really nice LCD screen that takes the code deciphering of most brake controllers out of the equation. It has 3 levels of boost and is adjustable to your preferences.

If you have the factory tow package, then you only need the Tekonsha Plug in Wiring adapter # 3070-P. This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

If you do not have the factory tow package then you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 and a 4-way trailer connector like # 118760 if you don't already have one. This will give you a 4-way and 7-way connector as well as all the wiring, connections, and circuit breakers needed to give you a tow package for your Pilot.
