Troubleshooting SH Code on Prodigy P2 Brake Controller
Question:
HI, I bought an older 2007 Raptor 3 axle trailer, with a Prodigy controller. Sometimes when I first hook up the trailer and get ready to leave the site, I get a 5H code, I see you refer to it as SH code, and the trailer brakes are weak if they're working at all. After driving even a few blocks, the code disappears and the trailer brakes work OK. I've checked to be sure the wires are not chafed bare where they go in and out of the axle housing, and that all the brake wires that I can see are insulated from ground and that none of the connections are loose or corroded. I know you don't have a crystal ball, but do the wires tend to rub themselves bare where they run inside the axle tube? Are there other trouble areas I should check? Any suggestions are appreciated.

There are a couple of other things for you to check to get rid of the SH code on your Prodigy P2 # 90885. You should check all the wiring to see if there is a pinched or exposed or cut wire somewhere, beginning at the brake assembly. After that, move on to the connectors on both the vehicle and trailer to make sure there is no corrosion or dirt; this is often the cause of the SH code, which indicates a short.
The other thing you will want to take a look at is the brake magnets; it is possible they are in the process of going bad or already have. To test them you may need a multimeter such as # PT89ZR. I have attached a link to a help article on testing brake magnets for you to take a look at.
