How to Install and Wire a Brake Controller and 7-Way on a 2008 Dodge Pickup
Question:
I have a 2008 Dodge 1500 Quadcab and I want to install a elect trailer brake and a 7 way plug for my trailer. I have a factory flat 4 pin plug at the rear bumper. what does the plug under the dash that the elect brake connects to look like and where is it located. Also On the 7 pin plug install I can plug the 4 pin into the back of the 7 pin plug, but what color are the wires on the truck that I have to splice for the hot lead and the brake control

Some of the later model Dodge Ram trucks that were equipped with the factory 4 way trailer connector DO NOT have the brake controller port. If it is there, it would be blue in color and located on top of or beside the white junction box on the firewall behind and above the emergency brake pedal, usually taped to another wiring harness.
If there is no port, you would need the hardwired brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7. We have an online page that describes how to do this installation. Use the instructions under the heading - No Existing Wiring Harness. Your existing 4 way connector would plug into the 7 way connector included in the kit. The wires for the hot lead and the brake controller would need to be run to the front of the vehicle, as outlined in the instructions.
I have also linked you to an FAQ article that describes how the kit is used, as well as an install video showing the kit being installed on a 2001 Ram.
