How to Install a Tekonsha Brake Controller on a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
I have a 2010 1500 silverado with the Z71 pkg and a tekonsha envoy brake control, do you have a diagram or how do I hard wire that control? Is that control big enough to haul a 27 6500lbs travel trailer?

The Tekonsha Envoy is an older brake controller that Tekonsha does not sell any longer. I do not know much about the Envoy controller so I spoke to my contact at Tekonsha and what he thought about the two and he stated that the Voyager is a more effective/reliable and user friendly brake control unit than the Envoy unit.
The Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, part # 39510, will handle up to 4 axle (8 brakes) trailer brake systems. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Voyager brake controller and a video review of the brake controller.
Starting with the 2007 model year General Motors quit offering the plug in type connectors for a brake controller. The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado will have four or five blunt cut wires under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. The wires can be identified by a white label and the color of the wires. The wire colors are (1) Red/Black wire, (1) White wire, (1) Light Blue/White wire and (1) Dark Blue wire and possibly (1) Orange wire. You can remove the plug in connector on your brake controller or you can use the Draw-Tite Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness, part # 20127, to connect to the blunt wires under the dash.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on how to install a brake controller in a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. It will also describe how to match up the wire colors of your brake controller to your vehicles wires.
If you have a factory 7-Way connector on your vehicle you will be ready to tow after you install your brake controller. If you do not have a factory 7-Way connector on your vehicle you will need to add the Pollak Twist-In, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, part # PK11916, to get a 7-way at the rear of your vehicle. I am including a video link that will show the Pollak connector being installed on a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado.
