Wiring your 2005 Hyundai Elantra for towing with the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, item # C11220, is a pretty straight forward process. We have a video installation of this kit on a 2006 Elantra that should help with your installation.

You will need a converter wiring kit, item # 119178KIT, to convert your vehicles separate turn and stop circuits onto one circuit for the trailer lighting. The converter is also circuit protected to protect your vehicles sensitive circuitry in the event of a short on the trailer wiring.

To install this kit, you will use the included circuit tester to find the correct wires behind the vehicle tail lights. Once you have accessed the back of the vehicle tail lights start on the left side. Attach the white ground wire to a location that is free of paint primer and corrosion. Next, attach the yellow wire to the wire on the vehicle that shows power when the turn signal is activated. Now, the red wire is attached to the wire that shows power when the brake lights are activated. The last connection on the left side is the brown wire and it is attached to the wire that shows power when the tail lights are turned on.

Finally, route the green wire to the passenger's side of the vehicle and connect it to the wire that shows power when the right turn signal is activated.

The last step is to test the 4-Way connector. You should get stop and turn signal where the yellow (left) and green (right) wires go into the connector and tail light where the brown wire goes into the connector, with the ground attached to the terminal where the white wire enters the connector. If all functions are working properly your installation is complete.
