Installing the ETCB7 Kit and a Brake Controller on a 2001 Subaru Forester
Question:
I have a pop up with a 7 pin connector. I just finished installing a Curt hitch and 4 pin connector on my 2001 Subaru Forester. My plan is to buy item number ETBC7 with a brake controller but I dont know A: which controller to purchase and B: if that kit is really what I need to purchase. Do you instructions for how to install a controller for a 2001 subaru forester? Thank you

Let's start off with the wiring. Since you already have a 4-Pin connector on your 2001 Subaru Forester all you will need to make your Forester compatible with the 7-Way on your trailer is the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7.
This will plug into the existing 4-Pin connector that you have and then will supply the 12V Power, Brake Controller Signal, and Reverse Lights. We do have instructions, plus I have added a video showing this kit being installed on a 2001 Forester, but I have attached a video of this kit being installed on a 2011 Subaru Outback that you can use as a reference. You might need to use a Circuit Tester # PTW2993
to ensure that all of the wiring is connected correctly.
The attached video actually walks through the installation of the brake controller that I am recommending as well. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is a great brake controller because of how easy it is to install and use. The LCD screen makes changing any settings a breeze. After that you should be good to go!
I have attached some links and an installation video for you to use as a reference.
