Trailer Hitch Receiver Options For A Box Trailer Frame

Question:

I have the same question as the person that wanted to put a hitch on the rear of a horse trailer to mount a cargo carrier on. Mine is a Featherlite and the frame rails run parallel to the bumper so Im not sure how your suggestion for them would mount on mine.

I do have an RV trailer hitch receiver that may work for you in the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13703. The hitch receiver will fit trailers with frame rails from 22" to 72" apart. The frame brackets sit about 3" down from the crossbar therefore, may work with frame rails that run parallel to the rear bumper. I have attached a photo that will give you the dimension of the brackets included with this kit for further detail. When using this trailer hitch for non-towing application, you will need to use our Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap part # 18050.

You may also want to consider a bumper mounted RV hitch receiver like the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E-100. However, in order for this hitch to work, you will need to have a 4x4" continuously welded bumper on the rear of your trailer. This hitch will also require the use of our Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap part # 18050.

Unfortunately, none of our cargo carriers are rated for use behind an RV or trailer. In order to use a cargo carrier while hauling a trailer, I recommend installing a front mount hitch and cargo carrier. If you can provide me with the year, make, and model of your vehicle, I would be happy to offer my recommendation.

I have attached a review video on the following products for you.
