Roof Mount Cargo Box Recommendation for a 2009 Mercedes GL450 with Factory Roof Rack
Question:
I have a thule 1800 evolution cargo box model 673. The original quick-snap system wont work on my mercedes gl450 because the U-bolt is only 3.25 wide and the factory crossbars are 3.5 wide. Does Thule make a wider mount that could work on the factory cross bars? Thanks.

Thule states that trying to fit a different mounting system on your Evolution Cargo box is not something they advise because it requires making modifications to the box that could affect its performance and safety.
Instead, Yakima offers numerous boxes that are a direct fit to the factory crossbars on your 2009 Mercedes GL450. For a box with 18 cubic feet, you can use the Yakima SkyBox 18 Cargo Box, # Y07336. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.
