Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2007 Toyota Tundra Towing a 6,500 Pound Trailer

Question:

I am towing a vehicle on a flat-deck trailer. The combined weight is 6500 pounds. My tow vehicle is a 07 Toyota Tundra 4X4 Double Cab with the 5.7 V8. I run a current tongue weight of about 700-750 pounds. Should I get 1000 or 1200 pound bars?

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will need one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the trailer tongue weight, loaded and ready to tow. For a 700 to 750 pound tongue weight, I recommend a system with a range of 600 to 1,200 pounds.

With this flat bed trailer loaded with a vehicle, I recommend a system that has sway control. The best sway control systems are dual-cam systems. The dual-cam systems are pro-active systems that stop trailer sway before it starts.

Take a look at the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, # RP66084. This system has a tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,200 pounds, a gross trailer weight capacity of 12,000 pounds, and includes dual-cam sway control and the required adjustable shank. All you would need is a properly sized ball like # 19286 (2-5/16 inch diameter) or # A-90 (2 inch diameter).

I have included a link to the installation details along with a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for reference.
