Troubleshooting Voyager Brake Controller 39510 Locking Up Brakes When Connected to Trailer
Question:
I have 2 trailers I have used this controller on for a few years and is working properly on these trailers now. I recently started using a 3rd heavy trailer with the large newer 6 plug connection, break away mechanism. I have the proper adapter to go from the small 6 pin to the large. The adapter appears to be properly wired. Upon connection the brakes set on the trailer, no light up on voyager controller, adjusting controller has no effect. I am running it now with blue wire disconnected.no brakes but I got lights Is there a amperage difference or some other requirement the trailer needs the voyager doesnt provide?

It sounds like you have some corrosion on your trailer connector that is shorting out the brake output circuit and causing it to have 12 volts continuously on that circuit. If not corrosion, it could also be that on the adapter the brake output wire is touching another wire causing it to have power all the time.
I have had this situation myself after rewiring a trailer connector, and typically I had bare wires that were touching each other and I just had to clean up the wiring and everything worked fine.
I would use a circuit tester # PTW2993 to check the adapter for voltage in the right places when connected.
I attached an FAQ article below on trailer wiring below that you might find informative also.
