Recommended Weight Distribution System for 5,300 Pound Trailer

Question:

Weight distribution and sway. I have a 2011 Dodge Ram. I purchased a 2015 Gulf Stream Track and Trail. The weight is 5300lbs. Which bar do you recommend for pulling. Thanks.

When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. This will include both the loaded tongue weight of your Gulf Stream Track and Trail, along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Dodge Ram. Ideally, you will want this number to fall somewhere around the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity range.

Using the 5,300 weight you mentioned in your question, we can estimate a tongue weight of around 530 to 795 pounds, as the trailer's tongue weight should be 10-15% of its total weight. We will want to leave some wiggle room to account for the loaded weight and any cargo coming from behind the rear axle of your truck. I recommend using a scale like the # e99044 to verify the trailer's tongue weight when it is fully loaded and ready for a trip.

With these estimates in mind, a system like the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-1000 that you were looking at will be a great option. This system has a tongue weight capacity of 400 to 1,000 pounds and has 2 integrated points of sway control to limit side-to-side movement. It will do a great job of evenly distributing weight over the axles of your Dodge Ram and trailer for added stability and control. You will just need to add a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # EQ91-00-6080.

I have attached a demonstration video and the installation details on this product for you to check out. I have also included an FAQ article on weight distribution systems that you might find helpful.
