The four wires you found under your Ram's dash - black, red, green and green/white - can be tested to confirm what function each one carries. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993. You may also be able to see the gauges of each wire. The 12V power, the ground and the output wire leading to the 7-way should all generally be heavier-gauge than the 4th wire that delivers the brake light signal from the brake light switch above the pedal.

The vehicle wire that has 12V power at all times is the power feed that joins the BLACK wire on the controller. The wire that carries a signal only when you press the brake pedal joins the RED input signal wire on the controller. The other two wires are for ground and controller output. If one of these is heavier gauge than the other that heavier wire is likely to be the ground. You can also check the back of the 7-way to see what color wire runs to the pin at the 5-o-clock position in the socket; this is the contact that brings the controller's output to the trailer.
