Compatibility Of 4 Bike Carrier And Large Lightweight Cargo On 2017 Subaru Forester
Question:
Can you attach a hitch bicycle carrier to a hitch flat cargo carrier? I have a Class II, 1-1/4 inch hitch on my 2017 Subaru Forester that I currently use with a Thule 4 bike rack TH934XTR. I want to extend my cargo capacity for large light weight items and at the same time bring along our bicycles for the ride? Is there a cargo carrier that will fit my needs?

For your 2017 Subaru Forester with Thule Hitching Post Pro - Folding Tilting 4 Bike Rack w Anti-Sway - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH934XTR you already are at 180 lbs if you are at capacity. Due to the weight restrictions of your Class II hitch, you won't be able to add a carrier because of the adapter needed.
You may want to consider a roof basket like the Thule Canyon XT Roof Cargo Basket - Steel - 49" x 40" x 6" - 150 lbs, Item # TH859XT for your larger cargo.
If you upgrade your hitch to the Draw-Tite Class III # 75876, then you could add an extender like the Malone Dual Hitch Extender # MPG544 and use a cargo carrier like # C18113 for very light weight carrier at just 25 lbs. The adapter reduces your hitch tongue weight capacity by 50% so it would be limiting but possible. The issue besides weight is the location will be directly under your bikes.
