Compatibility Of Platform Bike Rack With Jeep Wrangler Spare Tire

Question:

Will the Thule T2 Pro XT fit on my stock Jeep Wrangler? Clear my spare tire if i slide the trays out? Thanks.

The Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH83JV will need an extension to clear your rear spare. From the center of the hitch pin hole this rack is 7 inches to the closest part of the rack when in position to carry bikes and when folded is 5 inches to closest part.

This is an excellent bike rack, so I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795. This will reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50% but that won't be an issue with carrying 2 bikes.

I have a jeep wrangler JL 2018 and looking for a sturdy platform two bike bike rack with lock to bikes and hitch. I have a variety of bikes (step through, womens, mtb and road). Thank you.

Assuming your Wrangler has a spare at the rear, I recommend first taking a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch to the outermost edge of the spare tire. This tells you the kind of clearance you need to try and avoid any interference (I would stay away from using an extender if at all possible). I really like the Yakima TwoTimer # Y02468, which features a uniquely large distance of 17" from the hitch pin hole to the closest wheel cradle. Locks for both the rack itself and your bikes are included.
