Will Sears Sport Cargo Box Fit Thule Crossbars on 2010 Kia Soul

Hi - I have a 2010 kia soul with a thule traverse roof rack. I wanted to borrow a Sears Sport 15cav cargo box for a trip but Im not sure I can or should move my roof rack bars to fit the box. the box is 15cu ft, 48foot x 36foot x 20foot but it has indentations on the underside where it sits on the rack and bolts on. Can the thule rack bars be adjusted to fit this box or is that not recommended? The attachment points on the box are ~23 inches apart and the rack bar spread is as indicted in the installation instructions, so I would have to move the bars closer together to fit the box. Any recommendations or thoughts? I wanted a smaller cargo box. thanks

It looks like the measurement between the two Thule AeroBlade Load Bars on your 2010 Kia Soul should be 30 inches. I do not recommend adjusting this space as it will most likely affect the capacity and integrity of the roof rack system.

If you want to use your existing Sears Sport Cargo Box, which requires a crossbar spread of around 23 inches, the only option you may have is to simply drill new holes into the box in order to spread the mounting hardware out to fit the crossbars. Keep in mind that doing this can weaken its overall structure and potentially lead to failure of the unit.

I recommend going with a cargo box that is designed to fit the crossbars on your Kia Soul, such as the Yakima SkyBox # Y07336. This will be a much safer solution. This is a great cargo box that is designed to fit crossbar spreads of 24 inches to 42 inches. It will provide 18 cubic feet of storage space and a nice aerodynamic design.
