Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 2017 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Purchased 2017 Toyota Highlander with Trailer package. Vehicle has 4-pin flat connector. Im purchasing a small travel trailer that has a 6-pin round connector. Additionally, the trailer is equipped with electric brake. I need to understand the proper equipment needed, as well as install instructions to convert the factory installed flat 4-pin to the 6-pin round, as well as operate the electric brakes. Appreciate any help you can provide...thanks.

You will need a brake controller like part # 90195 for your trailer brakes. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to set up and operate.
The wiring is really not that tough. I recommend part # ETBC6. This plugs into the 4-way connector on your 2017 Highlander, and then you will need to do some additional wiring. The Blue wire is connected to the Blue wire from the brake controller. The White is a ground. And the Red wire is a power wire to power accessories on the trailer and should be attached to the positive battery post with the included 40amp circuit breaker. If you do not need the 12V power for anything mounted on the trailer you can just tape off the Red wire. The # ETBC6 has everything included for installation.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
