Availability of Cargo Carrier to Carry Scooter on 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander With 1-1/4 inch hitch

Question:

Do you have a carrier for a scooter that is approximately 94lbs? The car is a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander With a class I hitch

Since you have a Class I trailer hitch receiver, that means you have a 1-1/4 inch opening in your receiver so none of our cargo carriers that use a ramp would be compatible as they are all made for 2 inch receivers. You could use an adapter for the carrier but the problem is that it would cut the Tongue Weight (TW) rating of your trailer hitch in half.

We do have some cargo carriers like the Curt # C18145 which can carry up to 500 lbs so your hitch receiver would be the limiting factor, but I doubt you would want to lift a 94 lb scooter up into a cargo carrier.

Because of all of this the best way for you to carry your scooter would be to get a small trailer to haul it around in. To accomplish this you will also need a ball mount, hitch ball, and trailer wiring. You will also want to check your owner's manual for any specifications for towing.

To determine which ball mount option would be the best for you I have attached a helpful article that explains how to determine Rise/Drop as well as a link to our selection of Class I ball mounts for you to look through. You can use a hitch ball with either a 1-7/8 inch Diameter # 19256 or 2 inch Diameter # 19258 depending on what your trailer requires. These hitch balls have 3/4 inch shanks.

For trailer wiring I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 which will provide you with a 4-Pole connector. I have attached an installation video of the similar harness that you can use as a reference.
