Which Wire to Use for Red Wire of Brake Controller in a 2014 Subaru Forester

Question:

I looked at a previous post and it was stated the red and white wire was the one to connect to the red on the controller. the red white wire does have 12 volts when the brake pedal is pushed. it also grounds when released. does this matter? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

It would not matter if the stoplight circuit wire for your 2014 Subaru Forester grounded when the brakes were released. All it is used for is a signal wire for the controller to know when to start applying the trailer brakes.

If the red and white wire in your 2014 Subaru Forester has voltage when the brakes are applied it would be the correct one to use.
