Can Red Wire of Prodigy P2 Brake Controller be Connected to Circuit Other Than the Stop Light Switch

Question:

I am installing a Tekonsha 90185 brake controller on a 2000 Ford Ranger. I am having an issue trying to get access to the brake red wire connection on the brake peddle. Fact is...I cant fit under the dash to do the work. Can I just run a wire from the brake lights to the cab and make that the connection or will there be an issue with resistance etc?

If you can't find the cold side of the stop light switch to connect the red wire to when installing the Prodigy P2, part # 90885, you can use a dedicated brake light circuit.

The CHMSL circuit is often a good choice since it is only used for the brake lights and has no other functions. If you tap into a circuit that has multiple functions the controller will not work properly.
