Installing A Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit

Question:

We connected a converter similar to yours on a 2008 ford F 450 school bus for trailer lights . When we we connect the red brake wire converter to the blue brake light wire vehicle we have no signal coming through the converter on the yellow or green wire. What are we doing wrong ? Does this vehicle put out more than 2.1 amps for brake lights ? If yes , how can I reduce the amps so it does not damage another converter ? I just need operational brake lights for the trailer. Please advise and thanks in advance.

The first thing you will need to do is check for a loose ground wire as 95% of all wiring problems are attributed to faulty grounds. If the ground wire is still securely attached to a metal surface, you will then want to check for blown fuses. If the ground is secure and the taillight fuses are intact, then you can begin to test the converter box.

Since you have already tested the wires leaving the converter box, you will want to begin testing the wires before the converter box using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.

Test each wire before the box while the signal is being activate by a helper in the vehicle. If the signal is going into the convert box but not coming out, that indicates a bad box, and it will need to be replaced. If the signal is not reaching the converter box, they you may have a short in the wires leading to it and will need to trace each wire back looking for a severed or split connection.

I have attached an installation video of this wiring harness for your review.
