Are There Replacement Cradles for a Yakima DoubleDown?

Question:

I have a Yakima Ridgeline, # Y02424, whose DoubleDown inch bike cradle parts are deteriorating. I want to replace the cradles/straps, but I'm hoping to find another part that will make it easier to get the bikes on/off. The original cradle parts are a REALLY hard to work with. I'm hoping something like # 8880597 could work. Thanks for letting me know what my options are.

The Replacement SuperCush Cradle, # 8880597, will not work with a Yakima DoubleDown, because the SuperCush works with 1-1/8" diameter rack arms. The DoubleDown uses replacements that are 1-1/4", such as # Y8890177.

There are replacement cradles from other manufacturers that also fit arms up to 1-1/4" such as the Hollywood # HR750-P, but for the best fit for the rack, I recommend using Yakima replacements on your Yakima rack. If the cradles are becoming too difficult to work with, you could always upgrade to a platform style four-bike rack such as the Hollywood Sport Rider SE # HR1400, so long as you have a Class III hitch.
