When installing a weight distribution system for your travel trailer, I actually recommend first using the air bags to level the vehicle as needed after the trailer has been coupled to your truck. You will then engage the spring bars on the weight distribution system.

The air bag system on your tow vehicle is still going to provide suspension enhancement and may help with vehicle rear end sag that is caused by cargo weight. The reason we often suggest against installing both an air bag system and weight distribution system is simply because a properly rated weight distribution system should negate the need for air bags. This does not mean that they cannot be used together.

Since you already have an air bag system installed, I do not recommend letting the air out. You will want to still use the system as you have been.

When choosing a weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your towing setup. This will include the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your truck. You will want this number to fall somewhere around the middle of the tongue weight capacity range on the system you choose. I recommend using a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 to verify the loaded tongue weight of your new travel trailer.

If your total tongue weight falls within this range, this will be a great system.
