Is a tow Package With Brake Controller Available for a 2017 Ford Explorer?
Question:
Was told my 2017 explorer came with tow package. And i guess it did. It's not what i thought a tow package is. It only has a 4 pin flat and a mount bracket for a 7-way. Is there a complete kit I can purchase to give my Explorer a complete tow package? You know, electric brakes, charge wire and such? Thank you.

We can help you get everything you need to tow with your 2017 Ford Explorer, though the parts are going to be separate as opposed to one complete package. Since you mentioned electric brakes, you will need a trailer brake controller, and because you have a 4-flat, the installation kit, # ETBC7, will give you the necessary wiring.
For the brake controller itself, I recommend the Prodigy P2, # 90885, which is going to activate your trailer's electric or electric over hydraulic brakes in proportion with your Explorer's brakes. I have attached a link to a video install of both the wiring and Prodigy for you to take a look at.
As for adding electric brakes to your trailer, to get the proper assembly assembly you get will need to know the trailer axle's weight capacity, the bearing numbers and the wheel bolt pattern. If you decide to get new brakes, let me know and I'll be happy to assist you. I have added links to help articles on adding trailer brakes which you may find useful.
