Dual Cam Weight Distribution Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 7,500 lbs

Question:

Perhaps you can help, im looking at upgrading my currant load equalizing hitch, to a Reese cam type with sway control. however my head is spinning with load weights and towing capacities. Can you put me in touch with an expert that can even tell me if the tow vehicle 2013 F150 fx4 7350 GVR and a combined maximum capacity of 13,500 . Trailer fully loaded is specked at 7500 full load. However running both thru a CAT scale combined actual weight is 12780 lbs. can you shed some insight on what im missing? If i cant pull it i dont want to spend the 550+$ on a new hitch. thank you.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

So your tongue weight is most likely going to be between 750 lbs and 1,125 lbs since your trailer is 7,500 lbs.

That means the best Reese Strait Line system is going to be the # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and has the proactive sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
