Recommended Safety Chain Extension For 5/16 Inch Chains

Question:

Hi I am trying to extend the safety chains on my camper. The chains are 5/16 and rated at 3900 lbs each. I can find chain but any couplers are rated much lower than n my chains. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Expert Reply:

To extend your chains, I recommend the 40" Vinyl Coated Safety Cables with Clevis Hook (Qty. 2) by Dutton-Lainson, 6,500 lbs. # DL20119. They require 5/8 inch diameter bolts, flat washers and locknuts to mount. Another option is to use the 35" Long Safety Chain with Clevis Slip Hook, 5,400 lbs. # 1483-535-04 and can be installed using the same hardware listed above.
