I highly recommend looking at the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 for your 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup. This is a great proportional controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Ram. It features a nice digital display along with continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This controller is well known for its reliability and ease of installation and will work perfectly for your 27 foot camper.
Since you have the factory plug-in under the dash of your truck, you will just need the Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3020-P to install the brake controller. One end of the adapter will plug into the controller itself and the other end will plug into the blue port you mentioned in your question.
I have included the written installation details and instruction manual for you to look over.
