Expert Reply:

The towing capacity of your 2004 Dodge Dakota is 3,400 to 4,650 lbs.

If you were to install the Curt Class 3 Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13145 which has a Gross Trailer Weight of 5,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight of 500 lbs your Dakota would be the limiting factor and you would still only be able to haul up to 4,650 lbs.

Please keep in mind that the Tongue Weight of your trailer should be between 10-15 percent of the GTW of your trailer.
