Can Hub Studs be Changed from 9/16 to 5/8 to Use 17-1/2 Inch Wheels on a Horse Trailer

Question:

I have a 30 ft Sundowner 4 horse Living Quarter Horse Trailer. It rides on 8,000lb axles and 16inch Goodyear G614 tires. One axle is a Dexter, one axle is a Lippert Dexter is original and had to replace one with lippert due to a bearing problem on the road. Loaded rig puts about 12k on the axles. Having problems with tread seperations, not related to pressure or age, i always run my tires at max psiand replace every four years. My question, is if these axles have 9/16 studs, can I just use my existing hubs and change out the studs to 5/8 or will I have to buy new hubs or have the holes drilled out? Any advice would be appreciated.

It might be possible to change out the studs in your hub from 9/16 to 5/8 if they are drive-in studs and not the type that threads in. If they are drive in and the diameter of the knurl end is approximately 0.6875 inches then you can replace them. We have a set of four 5/8 drive-in studs # RG03-120. I have linked a video review of them.
