Installing Curt Echo Brake Controller with 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter on 2003 GMC Sierra
Question:
I recently installed a 4 to 7 pin adapter but did no run the extra wires except for the ground wire. If I buy pat C51180, wireless break controller, do I still need to run those extra wires from the 7 pin system?

Since you have already installed a 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter like the # 37185 on your 2003 GMC Sierra, you will only need to run the black 12-V power wire from the adapter to the positive battery terminal to install the Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180.
You will run the wire to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker like # 9510. You will also need a length of 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to reach this distance. The white wire will then just be grounded to the vehicle frame as you mentioned in your question.
I have included a diagram that might help you picture which wires are needed from the 7-Way and where they connect. I have also included a video demonstration and the written manual for the Curt Echo that you can take a look at.
