Economical Electric Trailer Brake Controller in 2008 Chevrolet Express Van with Factory Tow Package
Question:
Looking for a trailer brake controller for my 2008 chevy express with 7-pin already wired from factory. I am just going to tow a 2 axel car trailer short distances. Whats the most cost effective option?

For the best braking experience on your 2008 Chevrolet Express you want a proportional controller. There isn't a delay in the braking like there is with a time-delayed controller and a proportional applies the brakes with the same intensity the van is slowing down so it reduces the amount of wear and tear on the brakes themselves. However, they do cost a little more.
The best bang for your buck for a proportional controller is the Primus IQ # TK90160. I've linked an install on a 2014 Chevy van that will be the same process as yours. The wiring to install the controller will already be run under the dash and the Primus IQ will get hardwired in. On some models of the Express you will need to run wiring to the van's battery for power. If you need this use # 5506 which includes wire and circuit breakers.
