Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller in 2017 GMC Acadia without 7-Way
Question:
Question: Please advise on how to install a trailer brake controller to a 2017 GMC Acadia All Terrain. My car dealer and a local trailer store both say there is no way to add a trailer brake controller to my vehicle..... Something about my vehicle does not have a harness that the brake controller can plug into. I noticed the part #9506P and am wondering if this is what I have to have so I can add a brake controller to my vehicle. Any help will be greatly appreciated !!!!

The part # 9506P is a 20 amp circuit breaker which can be used in a brake controller install but I wouldn't typically refer to it as the "missing link" for installing a brake controller on a vehicle in most situations as it's just for circuit protection.
Basically any vehicle can have a brake controller installed on it. It's just a matter of either using a install harness for vehicles pre-wired or having to hardwire the controller in. In your case it sounds like we have to hardwire which isn't a big deal.
You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118720.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
