Recommended Sidewinder And 5th Wheel Installation Kit For 2012 Chevrolet 1500

Question:

I have a 2012 Chevy 1500 with a 58inch box. I also have a drawtite 6001 5th wheel hitch . Will the 6001 work with the Reese sidewinder. I have a Leland pin box AF 7910 on the trailer. Also, what rail and bracket kit do I use to install the hitch. How much are each of these parts? Thank you.

Your older Draw-Tite 6001 fifth wheel hitch will work with a Reese Sidewinder. If your hitch is a slider it will need to be locked into the towing position.

For a rails kit I recommend part # RP50064-58. this kit has custom brackets that mount to your truck frame and cuts installation time in half when compared to universal kits.

The Sidewinder I recommend for you is part # ST400-5AS16K. This pin box features an air spring that absorbs shock and reduces vibration and chucking. The air bag in this Sidewinder can be moved depending on the load for better support. The trailer pivot point is moved 22 inches closer to the back of your truck so you can make 90-degree turns.
