Can a Euro Ball Mount be Used on a S Mini Cooper with the # 11130 Curt Hitch

Question:

I just recently purchased and installed the Curt receiver hitch 11130 on my Mini Cooper S. I was wondering if the draw bar #C45581 is long enough to work with my hitch. Since my receiver hitch is mounted behind the bumper, I wasnt sure if this draw bar would be long enough.

I spoke with my contact at Curt manufacturing and the Curt Euro Style Drawbar with 2-3/4 inch Rise, item # C45551, would be the correct Euro style ball mount for your Mini Cooper S. You will need to remember that the capacity of the hitch or vehicle, whichever is lowest, will be the maximum capacity for your vehicle, even though this drawbar is rated slightly higher.

The # C45581 ball mount would be long enough, but it has a 3-1/4 inch drop and is not recommended for use on the Mini.

The reason the Drop ball mount is not recommended is because safety testing has been done and the 2-3/4 inch rise ball mount puts the trailer coupler in the safest position for towing with the Mini Cooper S.
