Can Curt Stabilizer Strap be Used on a Cargo Carrier for an Inflatable Boat on a 2010 Mazda 3

Question:

Hello, I had made this cargo rack for my vehicle in order to transport a small inflatable boat 95lbs and its outboard motor 57lbs The maximum capacity os for 300lb, , the hitch capacity is 200lbs vertical/tonge weight. Can I use this strap 18050 to stabilize my cargo rack? i wa also thinking of stabilizing it from each corner of the cargo basket to the main post of the outboard motor. Should it be all right or what else do you recomend? Also I noticed the muffler exits in the corner of my cargo basket there is a distance of abour 6-10 inches to the laugage boat. What is the potential damage or temperature? Can I do something to avoid damages to my laugage?

Yes, you can use stabilizer strap # 18050 for your cargo carrier. You would want to run the strap under the spoiler of your 2010 Mazda 3 and place the hook in the gap between the back window and the trunk/boot lid. If you used 2 more you could secure the sides of the carrier and attach the hook end to the bottom of the trunk lid (or close the hooks in the trunk.

The exhaust is a problem though because at that short distance it can cause damage to your cargo. What I recommend is to use a turndown exhaust tip so the exhaust exits downward instead of straight back. We have some and I have included a link to them for you.
