7-Way Adapter for Towing Trailer with Surge Brakes with 2003 Toyota Tundra

Question:

My truck does not have a factory towing package. I purchased the truck used and it had a reciever hitch and a 4 flat plug. But I need a seven round for my boat, it has a hydraulic brake system so I need a 12 volt source when Im in reverse to release the brakes. The truck has only one plug in the factory harness. What do I need to make this work? I had already purchased a Hopkins #43385 trailer plug and it has two plugs at the end, can I make this plug work without factory tow package

Since your 2003 Toyota Tundra has a 4-way already what you need to convert to a 7-way and activate the reverse light circuit is # 37185. With this adapter you would just plug the 4-ways in together and then would run the reverse light circuit of the adapter (purple wire) to a circuit that carries voltage when the vehicle is in reverse. Normally you just tap into the power circuit of the reverse light and you'd be good.
