What is the Difference Between the Lippert Trailair Flex Air and Air Ride 5tth Wheel Pin Box
Question:
I have a 2006 Cedar Creek Daydreamer in which the pin box rusted out sitting on the coast of FL. My rig is 15500 lbs and I am wanting to replace the pin box. I am torn between the LC158778 and the LC328492. I understand the more expensive one is rated for 18k lbs vs the cheaper one at 21k lbs, but am looking for a reason why its cheaper? What does the 18k have/do that the 21k doesnt? Any guidance on this would be much appreciated.

The Lippert Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box, # LC328492, and the Trailair Air Ride 5th Wheel Pin Box, # LC158778 will both replace the Lippert 1621 pin box. Both use air spring shocks to provide for a smoother ride.
The big difference between the two pin boxes will be in the towing capacity and how the hitch head is designed.
The Flex Air pin box, # LC328492, has a 18K towing capacity and uses a pivoting hitch head. The pivoting head will help limit 5th wheel chucking. The head will control the movement of the head as it is connected to your 5th wheel hitch in your truck. This feature will add to the ride improvement that the air bags and shocks give on these pin boxes.
The Air Ride pin box, # LC158778, has a 21K towing capacity, but does not use the pivoting head.
