How to Convert Factory 4-Way on 2014 Ford F-150 to 7-Way and Install Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

I have a 2014 Ford F-150 that came factory wired with a 4 flat. I just ordered a hitch from etrailer.com and I need to convert that factory 4 flat to a 7 pin. I will be purchasing a brake controller as well. What products will I need to accomplish this? Also, what level of difficulty is the install? Is it something I can do myself or take to a shop and have it done? Thank you!

To convert the factory 4-way on your 2014 Ford F-150 to a fully functional 7-way connector and install a trailer brake controller, you will just need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit will include everything needed to make this conversion while still retaining the use of the original 4-way connector. I have attached an article that details the installation steps for this kit for you to review. If you are comfortable with making a few wire connections in your vehicle, you can absolutely install this yourself. If not, a local auto repair shop will be able to do this without issue.

If you have not already decided on a trailer brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a great proportional controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your F-150. It features an easy-to-read digital display and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. For your Ford F-150, you will just need to add the # 22292 plug-in harness to connect the controller. One end of the harness will connect to the built-in harness beneath your vehicle's dash and the other end will plug in to the brake controller itself.

I have attached an installation video on your truck as well as the written installation details for you to check out.
