Connecting 4-Way on Vehicle to 6-Way Square on Coachmen Trailer

Question:

I purchased the adapter 4 way flat to 6 way square for jayco item# 30104 with a vehicle wire harness Item# 118449. I have a coachmen trailer and the jayco 6 way square fits the connection on the trailer, however, I dont think the pins match a coachmen trailer wiring. Non of the lights work on the trailer despite power coming from the car wire harness. Is there a 4 flat to 6 square adapter for a coachmen?

I do have a solution for you, however as you mentioned in your question, the Tow Ready Adapter 4 Way Flat to 6 Way Square # 30104 is designed for Jayco RVs only and is not compatible with your Coachmen trailer. We do not currently have an adapter available that will work with your Coachmen.

What I recommend doing is simply replacing the existing connector on your Coachmen to a 4-Way to match what you have on your tow vehicle. You can do this by installing the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM48110 and cutting off the existing square plug on the trailer. You will want to test each wire for function to ensure you make the correct connections to the new 4-way.

The yellow on the Hopkins connector will connect to the wire for left turn and brake. Green will go to the wire for right turn, brown will go to the wire for tail lights and white is for ground. I recommend using butt connectors like # DW05745-5 to make these connections.
