Recommended Light Weight and Easy to Use Weight Distribution System
Question:
I am in the market for a weight distribution hitch. We have a 2016 Ford F-150 and a Dutchman Aspen Trail 28bhs travel trailer. I would like something that is lighter weight and/or easier to handle as I am a gal who is camping without another adult along a lot of the time. If there is something that can also stay on while backing up that would be great, too. Any recommendations for me? Thank you!

To determine the correct weight distribution system for your trailer you'll need to find its loaded and ready to tow tongue weight. Add that to the amount of weight you'll add behind the rear axle of your F-150 and you'll have the total tongue weight of your setup. You want that number to fall within the range of the system you choose.
From my research the Dutchmen Aspen Trail's maximum weight is a little under 10,000 pounds which means the tongue weight is likely between 1,000 to 1,500 pounds at the most. You'll need to verify this to be sure.
One of the lightest systems we carry is the Reese Steadi-Flex. It also uses friction pads for sway control so it's quieter than most systems. If I'm correct about your trailer's weight you'll need a system rated for at least 1,000 pounds tongue weight. The Steadi-Flex systems rated from 1,000 pounds and up are:
# RP66559 rated up to 1,000 pounds tongue weight
# RP66560 rated up to 1,200 pounds tongue weight
# RP66561 rated up to 1,400 pounds tongue weight
The Steadi-Flex does not include a hitch ball. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 or for a 2-5/16 inch use # 19286.
