Installing Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 On 2009 Honda Pilot
Question:
2009 Pilot - Honda dealer says vehicle is equipped with towing package including extra oil cooler. Vehicle has wiring plug above exhaust at rear. It has factory installed 2 hitch receiver. Plans were to order and install 118253 and 90885-3070P Cant find plug near steering column as suggested in write up on web site. Found one vacant plug to the right of the steering column but it has much more than 4 wires in it. That vacant plug is taped to the bundle of wires that go to the OBDII connector. Suggestions? Where else to look for under dash wiring plug?

Your 2009 Pilot may not have the plug under the dash for the brake controller, or it may be there with the wiring not completely ran. Since your 2009 Honda Pilot does not have a factory 7-way connector at the rear, you will need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118491, and the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
To install Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7, begin by plugging the 4-way of part # 118491 into part # ETBC7. Then connect the remaining wires, the White wire is the ground wire and will be connected to your vehicles frame. The Black wire will be connected to the Black wire of the duplex cable, and will run up to the front of the vehicle, and connected to a 40 amp circuit breaker then to the battery. The Blue wire on part # ETBC7 will be connected to the White wire inside the Black duplex cable and will be connected to the Blue wire coming from the back of the brake controller.
To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, you will then need to hard-wire the wires on back of the brake controller. The White wire will be connected to the negative battery terminal. The Black wire will be connected to the positive battery terminal via 30-amp circuit breaker. The Blue wire will connect to the White Duplex wire. The Red wire will be connected to the stoplight switch near the brake pedal. The stoplight switch will be the wire that only carries signal when the brake pedal is pressed. You will want to use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, to test for this wire.
I have linked instructions for the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885 and the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. There are also instructions and a video installation of the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118491. I have also linked an FAQ on installing a brake controller from scratch that you may find as a good reference.
