Recommended Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension for 5 on 5 inch Jeep Wrangler Tire

Question:

Hello, looking at your axle-less spindle for a tear camper that I want to use factory Jeep Wrangler 255R70/18 wheels on your 5x5 hub. Wondering if this one will work or if I must use the oversized wheel version.

The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - Spindle w/Brake Flange # ASR2000S02 does have the ability to incorporate a hub that has a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. If you would like just the hub it is part # AKIHUB-550-35-K and if you would like to have brakes you will need the Hub and Drum # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K, Right Hand (passenger's side) Brake Assembly # 23-48, and Left Hand (driver's side) Brake Assembly # 23-47.

With that being said, we highly recommend using trailer tires on a trailer instead of passenger tires. Reason being that trailer tires have stronger sidewalls that are built to handle heavy loads easier. Passenger tires have a little bit of give in their sidewall to help give the vehicle more of a smooth ride. I recommend going with a Bias Trailer Tire like # AM3S638 which is built for off-road purposes and will be better suited for your setup.

If you are concerned with losing the ground clearance that your larger Jeep tires would provide then you can simply use the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR2KHDS03 that use a 4 inch lift instead. For an idler hub you will want part # 84545UC1-EZ, but if you would like brakes you will want parts # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K, # 23-26, and # 23-27. These hubs feature a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and will work with the tire/wheel combinations on the linked page.
