Best Cargo Carrier for Ground Clearance on a 2016 Kia Soul
Question:
I had a hitch installed at the dealership and tried using a cargo carrier. However, it scraped the ground / roadroad on the smallest incline and I removed it. What model do you suggest? 2016 Kia Soul

Expert Reply:
Since your 2016 Kia Soul only has Class I trailer hitch receivers available for it you will need to go with a Class I cargo carrier. The only Class I cargo carrier that we currently carry with a rise is the 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 this carrier is rated for 300 lbs and has a shank rise of 3-3/4 inches. Please note that you will want to check the Tongue Weight capacity of your currently installed hitch as well as the Tongue Weight capacity of your Soul as well. Your weight limit will be established by your lowest rated piece of equipment.
We have some installation videos of trailer hitch receivers being installed on a 2016 Soul and he found the ground clearance to be 11 and 12 inches. This carrier will give you between 14 and 16 inches of ground clearance.
I also recommend using some Bungee Cords to secure everything to your carrier. I would suggest an assortment like 4-6 of the # EM06664 19" and # EM06656 24" along with 2-3 each of the lengths such as: # EM06658 36" and/or # EM06668 42". This would definitely get you started and could be customized as needed.
