Recommended Weight Distribution System With Sway Control For 21-Ft Trail Lite Camper
Question:
Im looking to purchase a WD with sway control to use on my Trail lite camper 21foot with a dry tongue weight of 375. I will be pulling it with either my Ford F-150 or a Dodge Ram 1500. I live in a windy climate so sway control is very important. I was looking at Item # FA94-00-0600 and would like to know if it would be sufficient.

The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.
With the dry tongue weight at 375, you would need to add the cargo in the towing vehicle and also any cargo you add to the trailer so I would estimate your total tongue weight somewhere near 600-lbs. The 600-lbs would be at the highest range of the # FA94-00-0600 system. The system I recommend is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-0800. This system is designed for tongue weight between 400 and 600-lbs. The system has 2-point sway control built-in that helps when passing large trucks and on windy days.
The hitch ball is sold separately so I recommend part # 63840 for a 2-5/16 inch ball and part # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2-inch ball.
