Your 1996 Toyota 4Runner has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs, so that 2700 lb camper is more than half of your vehicle weight so you may want to consider a weight distribution system as well as the brake controller.

For your brake controller, the Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN # TK63VR you referenced will need to be hardwired. I recommend using the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controller 12" Long # 20127 to keep your brake controller connection intact.

For your other wiring to your current 7-way, I recommend using the wiring kit for brake controllers # 5506. This will give you the wire for your 12V connection and your brake controller as well as the circuit breakers and other connectors. I've attached a video of this install for you.

For a weight distribution system, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # FA92-00-0600 along with the 2" Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 8,000 lbs # EQ91-00-6080. This system will give you the extra stability and sway control that will be helpful for a trailer over 50% of the tow vehicle weight. I've attached an article to help further.
