Recommendation for Power Steering and Transmission Coolers for a 2000 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Honda recommends upgrading their OEM cooler for towing. It seems like the biggest would be best and space shouldnt be a major issue but I dont know the fittings without taking it apart before ordering. What would you recommend? Thanks.

You will need to measure the inner diameter of the lines to see if it will accept the 11/32 hose barbs on the cooler. If not, you may be able to use the Derale 3/8 Inch Hose Barb to 3/8 Inch Hose Barb Fitting, # D98028. It all really depends on what the inner diameter of the OEM hose is.

I am fairly certain Honda also recommends a transmission cooler for towing as well. The transmission coolers we have listed for your 2000 Honda Odyssey come with and OEM spec hose and Insta-dapt radiator adapter, so there is a very good chance they will fit. If your transmission lines are 5/16 inches, they will work. If you find they are not 5/16, then different fittings or hoses will be needed. You will need to measure then to determine if they are correct.

The size cooler you need depends largely on what you will be towing, the terrain you will be traveling on, the distance traveled, and, maybe most importantly, where you will be able to install the cooler. For most applications (up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight), I recommend Derale Transmission Cooler, # D13502.

The highest capacity cooler we have for your van is Derale Cooler # D13503, rated for up to 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. I have included a video showing a typical installation of a transmission cooler along with a link to an FAQ on transmission coolers for reference.
